Golden Years - Holiday at Home

On Thursday 6th & Friday 7th July we welcomed around 50 people to this year's Golden Years - Holiday at Home. On Thursday morning a variety of crafts were on offer, after which lunch was served. In the afternoon there was entertainment from the Somer Valley Singers, who were delighted to stay for tea. On Friday a coach took everyone to Dobbies in Shepton Mallet for lunch, followed by Burnham for an ice-cream, rounded off with a ride through Cheddar and a final photo in front of the Church.

Peasedown Push Kart Race 2017

On Saturday 10th June Peasedown held it's first Push Kart Race with what was the opening event of Peasedown Party in the Park 2017. Three karts and their teams competed for the honour of 1st place on the podium and numerous other teams of two completed for the honour of the fastest lap around the circuit. Thank you to everyone who took part and came along to support us. See you next year!

Strictly Questions
Saturday 3rd June, 7pm - 8:30pm

An evening of lively debate about faith, church and belief. This months questions are:

1. What does it take for someone to recognise and admit that they need Jesus?
2. Is there a spiritual war going on and if so, should Christians be going into battle?
3. Should we be going out of our way to engage with those from other religions on our community?

Elmer comes to Seeds

On Wednesday the Seeds Baby and Toddler group explored the story of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. Elmer is an elephant who has a patchwork body of yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, black and white. As you can see from the photos, the children enjoyed making very colourful models of Elmer. 

Farewell to Michelle

On Sunday 30th April we said a fond farewell to Rev Michelle Ireland. After 10 years serving the people of Peasedown Michelle is leaving to take up a new post in the Forest of Dean. Michelle has guided and given her love to us in all she has done. We bless her on her journey and we commend to her new Churches.

Golden Years Winter Warmers

Ladies and Gentlemen of Peasedown St John, we invite you to join our us for the day on Tuesday 14th March to share in our 'Golden Years Winter Warmer' day. Entertainment, fun, food, friendship and a friendly welcome await you. 

 

Messy Church

Our next Messy Church is on Friday 27th January from 3:30pm - 5pm. Come and join in the fun at Messy Church. We use crafts and activities to explore Bible stories and share the love of God. There is no charge. This is a family event, so we encourage children to come along with an adult to share the fun. .

 

Handicraft Workshop

Our next Handicraft Workshop Day is on Saturday 11th February. It is an opportunity to share ideas and learn a new craft or expand your knowledge and enjoy meeting new friends. All are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost for the day is £4.50, plus any materials provided by the tutors. No experience is needed, but booking is essential. Operation Christmas Child

Christmas is for sharing and once again we are supporting Operation Christmas Child to provide a small shoebox packed with gifts and love, that will bring happiness to children in need across the world.

Since 1990, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.

Ted Visits Seeds Toddler Group

Seeds Toddler Group have been raising money for the RUH Forever Friends Appeal for several years and on 9th November Ted came to visit to say a big thank you. Everyone loved to see him.

Car Treasure Hunt

On Sunday 3rd July Peasedown Methodists took part in the annual car treasure hunt. On a route starting from Peasedown and finishing at a mystery destination, participants were required to answer 50 observational questions and identify a number of signpost pictures which had most of the information blanked out. The photo below is of the winning team, sat with the owner of Meadgate Farm Shop (the mystery destination), who stayed open late to allow us to purchase well earned refreshments.

 

Racism and Discrimination

As a result of the referendum on 23 June 2016, the United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union. In this time of very significant change and uncertainty there is a need for leadership which seeks the common good and encourages people to work together, to respect one another and to uphold the dignity of all. The 2016 Annual Conference of the Methodist Church passed a resolution containing the following text:

The Methodist Conference believes that the British Isles are enriched by diversity and celebrates the contribution made by those who have come from other parts of the world. The Christian tradition calls for respect, tolerance, love of neighbour and hospitality to the stranger. All bear the responsibility of speaking and acting for healing, reconciliation, and mutual respect. The Methodist Conference abhors and deeply regrets those actions and words which incite hatred and lead to the victimisation of groups within society and notes with concern that such actions and words have been normalised in recent public discourse. Believing that racism is a denial of the gospel and that to stay silent when others are abused is to collude with those who seek to promote hatred and division, the Methodist Conference calls:

• on the Methodist people to challenge racism and discrimination.
• for a political debate which neither demonises any nor leaves the vulnerable (the foreigner, the immigrant and refugee) in danger of victimisation.
• on political leaders to work together for the good of the whole community putting the needs of the nation before party politics.
• on all those in positions of power and authority to hear the voices of those who have been marginalised and alienated and to respond to them in ways which offer real hope for the future.

This statement is also shared on the Methodist Church website www.methodist.org.uk/nationallife where it can be turned into an email which will be automatically sent to your local Member of Parliament. The Conference also encourages the Methodist people to send this letter to their MP.

We are made for goodness

We have all been saddened by the events of the last week and in particular the news regarding the murder of the MP Jo Cox. Our prayers and love go out to her family, friends and colleagues at this time.

Queen's 90th Birthday Tea

On Sunday 29th May CommuniTea, our bi-monthly after tea and chat, helped to celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday with a special birthday tea. Don't those cakes look wonderful?

Winter Warmers 2016

On Tuesday 8th March the cold winter weather was shrugged off as members of the Church family and local community enjoyed a day of crafts and fellowship at the Winter Warmers day.

Prayer for our Village

24-Hour Prayer

From Friday 22nd January 12 noon
until Saturday 23rd January 12 noon

From 12 noon on Friday 22nd January, members of Peasedown Methodist Church and other churches in the village will be holding a 24-hour time of worship. There will be 24 hours of constant prayer for the village. You will be able to pray for any concerns you have, at whatever time you arrive. Come and help us pray for the welfare of our village.

Lunch Club - Christmas Meal

On Friday 18th December members of the local community enjoyed the annual Lunch Club Christmas Meal. Around 60 meals were served in total by volunteers from the Church family.

Messy Christmas and Christmas Fair

On Saturday 28th November we're holding two Christmas events:

Youngest and Oldest 

On Sunday 25th October we were blessed with a full congregation for morning worship, spanning several generations. Pictured below is Ron, 94, and Oscar, only a few days old, and the newest member of the Church family. God bless both of them.

24hr Worship

 

From 10:30am on Saturday 5th September until 10:30am on Sunday 6th September the church came alive to the sound of 24 hours of worship.

Kicked off by the Strictly Worship band, members of the church and
St John's led worship in 2 hour slots throughout the day and night.

Live music, loud music, quiet music, videos, meditation and reflection, there was something for everyone, but all with the same aim, to praise God!

Psalm 71:8 "My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendour, all day long!"

And we did!

Soul Survivor 2015

Soul Survivor is a five day event where thousands of young people and younger adults come along to worship God and to learn and grow in their Christian faith.

24-Hour Worship

From 10:30am on Saturday 5th Sept
until 10:30am on Sunday 6th Sept

On 5th of September at 10:30 a.m., members of Peasedown Methodist Church and other surrounding churches will be starting a 24-hour time of worship. We are hoping this will be an amazing time of continuous prayer and praise.

It is a completely open event! Anyone (at any time) can come in and worship, pray, wait in God's presence, share testimonies/words or just come in and listen and see what its all about!

The 24 hours will be split into sessions with different worship leaders, band members and styles of worship! Information regarding this will be released nearer the time.

'Strictly Worship' (a worship event that we hold on the first Saturday of every other month) coincides with 24 hour worship and will last for an extended time of 2 hours between 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Saturday evening!

The event will draw to a close at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday 6th of September, which will lead straight into our Sunday morning service.

Street Pastors - Commissioning

On Sunday 22nd March Church member Clare Midgley was commissioned as a Street Pastor, joining the team based in Midsomer Norton.

Street Pastors are a group of ordinary people from the local churches who have formed themselves into a Charity who go out onto the streets of Midsomer Norton on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm – 3am to help people who may be in difficulty.

Prayer Ministry Training Day

Developing a Prayer Ministry

Saturday 18th April - 10am to 4.30pm

David Betts, a speaker from New Wine will be leading the day with his team.

There will be the opportunity to hear about why and how to pray for others, and during the four practical sessions we will have the chance to practice praying for one another in a safe and encouraging environment. The aim of any prayer ministry is to get more people praying more and strengthening one another.

Nativity 2014 - The Jesse Tree

Worship on Sunday 14th December was led by the Sunday School who presented a traditional nativity and introduced us to the Jesse Tree, a symbolized family-tree of Jesus. Harvest 2014

Sunday 28th September was Harvest Festival, but with a slight twist - Rather than produce from the garden, the Church was decorated with the fruits of the congregations talents. Below are a few photos from of the wonderful display and of the service (click to enlarge).

Golden Years - Holiday at Home 2014

Once again Peasedown Methodist Church has hosted a successful three days of fun for the more senior residents. From Tuesday 15th July around 30 guests came along to enjoy the various activities on offer including several crafts, making crosses out of paper or glass, flower arranging and covering and filling shoeboxes for the SMILE Charity with everything used offered free. Others enjoyed doing a complicated jigsaw, reading the newspapers provided or chatting together.

On two days there were refreshments morning and afternoon and a delicious two course lunch. In the afternoons, entertainment from the Primary School Year 2 choir and the Golden Oldies was enthusiastically received. A picnic was enjoyed on the Wednesday when we all went off to Burnham on Sea, via Cheddar Gorge thanks to Lionel, our lovely driver. The Baptist Church Hall, close to the seafront, accommodated us all so that we could eat and drink comfortably. The weather was sufficiently favourable to allow a stroll along the promenade and some indulged in naughty ice creams! This has been a very successful time with fun and friendship in equal measure. There were new faces, new acquaintances made and lots of love and laughter. The ethos of the Church shone through with all, guests and helpers alike revelling in the love and care that was shown. We couldn't have done so much had it not been for the contributions we received.

The Quartet Foundation gave us a grant, local businesses were very generous, donations in kind were received from Brian the Butcher, the Co-Op, Tesco's, John in the Post Office and books on Peasedown were lent by David in the bookshop.

We would like to thank all who came, some of whom also gave personal donations, as without the 'Holiday Makers' Golden Years would not happen. Thank You to all those who worked so hard. A huge thank you also, to the ladies and gents who came to the three days, joined in the activities so amazingly, and without whom there would be no Golden Years! Thank You, you are all wonderful.
